2010The City Sings is a new commission for mac, the Birmingham arts centre. This long term project included a number of public events and culminates in a large-scale event to celebrate the centre's re-opening on May 3rd 2010 in Cannon Hill Park.The City Sings opened with a series of performances on the Bournville Carillon on the 1st and 4th August, 2009. This was followed by a 'flashmob' event in September 2009, during Artsfest and then a full orchestral performance in April 2010. 2009FLAM came to Frome on Sunday 25th October 2009. This was the West Country premiere of this wonderful virtuosic vocal work and was brought to Frome as part of Artmusic's 10th birthday event. Written by Orlando Gough and directed by Emma Bernard, it was brilliantly performed by Melanie Pappenheim and Rebecca Askew. 2008Palace Intrusions was a new year-long public art project for Wells in Somerset and the surrounding area, curated by composer Helen Ottaway and performance artist Melanie Thompson. The project was launched in October 2007 and reached its grand finale in September 2008. The project website includes a comprehensive archive of all the events as well as a blog page for comments and discussion. It's a String Thing! Reunion was held at St John's Church, Frome on Friday 28 September 2007. Players who took part in It's a String Thing! in March 2007 came together again to perform for an audience of first school students who are their first term of the Wider Opportunities Strings programme. The event also launched JUMPS (Joined Up Music for People in Somerset) in Frome and East Somerset, introduced by Kathryn Deane of the National Community Music organisation Sound Sense, and a new Artmusic publication the Frome Music Map.
